Certified Legal Document Preparer VS. Paralegal

Certified Legal Document Preparers do not have to be supervised by an attorney, where a paralegal does, and can work independently to provide legal documents in any legal matter.

According to the Arizona Codes of Judicial Administration § 7-208 and § 7-201. Legal Document Preparer Program a “Legal document preparer” means an individual or business entity certified pursuant to this section to prepare or provide legal documents, without the supervision of an attorney, for an entity or a member of the public who is engaging in self representation in any legal matter.

The American Bar Association describes a “Paralegal” a person, qualified by education, training or work experience who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency or other entity and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work.
